Introduction

This guide is developed for English for Academic Purposes (EAP), which is the fourth and final course in Center of Language Education (CLE) required core curriculum, to help you with your research writing and language use in academic contexts using the library resources.

EAP Course Objective

  • Select relevant sources using library databases and identify reliable resources 
  • Recognize and reinforce academic vocabulary 
  • Demonstrate understanding of features of academic reading and writing 
  • Develop skills of doing academic presentations 
  • Work cohesively in a group for research and presentation purposes 
  • Analyze successful strategies for paraphrasing and summarizing 
  • Understand the dangers and pitfalls of plagiarism and how it affects academic integrity 
  • Complete an argumentative research paper using multiple sources with appropriate in-text citations and references in APA style 
  • Improve writing through critical peer-editing for your partner
  • Identify self-evaluative techniques
