English for Academic Purposes (EAP): Cite in APA

Examples of APA

You need to cite in your writing if you use someone else's ideas, data, methodologies, illustrations, facts and figures that are originally created by someone else. To use these without citation is to plagiarize. EAP requires the citation style of APA (American Psychological Association).

APA Citation includes:

1. In-text citations: Integrating ideas and information within your own text from sources quoting, paraphrasing, summarizing and acknowledging. If the author can be identified, write the author's surname (family namelast name) and publication year in brackets:

Photography provides the model for modern technoscientific vision (Garlick, 2009), ...

2. End-of-paper references: Including all sources you have cited at the end of your paper. Sources should be listed in alphabetical order by author's surname.

Garlick, S. (2009). Given time: Biology, nature and photographic vision. History of the Human Sciences, 22(5), 81-101.
